Practising The Law Of Attraction - My Journey So Far

I can’t make it sound less cheesier than it actually is, but I’ve recently embarked on a journey of changing my life. Getting to know myself better, finding my place in this world, finding my calling and trying to follow it as well as I can. With every day that goes by, I make greater progress towards the kind of life that I want to live – or at least, that’s what I thought I was doing. In a matter of months, I actually arrived in a place of happiness and fulfilment, a place in which I can say that I bloody love my life. In today’s post, I want to shed some light on how that happened.

Three words: Law. Of. Attraction.

For as long as I can remember, the term ‘Law of Attraction’ was a very vague concept to me. I heard about it in various places and I sort of knew what it was about, but that’s where it pretty much stopped. To some degree, it also sounded like a bit of a mystical, hippie sort of thing that wouldn’t really fit with my beliefs and ideas about the world. And I thought that strongly until I stumbled upon a video that one of my favourite online creators, UnjadedJade, made about it.

I’m not one for saying that this or that changed my life, but this video has genuinely made me look at things in a totally different way.

Right after finishing watching that video, I committed to trying to practise the Law of Attraction in my own life. It wasn’t a trial run, but a genuine desire to adopt this novel perspective on things. That happened last August, so two months into my journey involving the Law of Attraction, I thought I would share how the way I choose to look at things now has influenced the direction in which my life is going.

Although it might sound like this already, this is not a post measuring the costs and outcomes of adopting the Law of Attraction in my life, and I am in no way trying to put an efficiency rate on it. My intention is to reflect on the topic and candidly present the positive twist that the Law of Attraction put on everything that I do because frankly, I am in awe with the places it’s taken me so far. And it’s with great excitement that I’m awaiting to see where it takes me next.

Before I start, what is the Law of Attraction? It is the belief that by focusing on either positive or negative thoughts and feelings, people attract either positive or negative things in their lives. Under this supposition, if people choose to focus on positive experiences, they attract more such experiences and improve their own health, wealth, personal development and relationships. The Law of Attraction is a popular belief under the umbrella of the New Thought philosophy, initially developed in the United States in the 19th century. Despite being heavily criticised, especially in scientific circles, the Law of Attraction is still well-known and standing its ground today.

For the record, I’ve had several people in my life either mock or criticise my own desire to practise the Law of Attraction. Most of the time insisting that it is unscientific, unproven or childish, but by no means is this post a response to criticisms brought against the Law of Attraction or an argument for supporting it. At this point, not only do I want to share my experience through writing because this is what I believe my job as a writer is about, but I also don’t care how other people think I should live my life.

But, keep on reading if you are open to exploring new ideas. Prepare for them to be life-changing.

Practising the Law of Attraction has made me feel more in control of my life. It’s made me aware of how big of a role my choices play in the direction my life is going, and how significant the decisions that I make actually are. It opened my eyes to the fact that my life is mostly what I make it out to be: every choice I make has a direct impact on what my life gets to become.

To some it might sound like common sense, but bear with me. This perspective on things has had such a great impact on my life because it prompted me to take matters into my own hands and make the choices that I want that day, that very moment. Take working out, for example. After longing for a certain kind of body for so long, I said to myself, screw it, I start today. And that’s what I did. Started that very day, worked out every day since then, incorporated yoga in my daily routine, upon waking up and before going to bed, worked on my posture and my flexibility. Started wearing a sports bra, despite feeling insecure about it and despite some people telling me they wouldn’t wear something so revealing if they were in my shoes, because results are obviously not showing up yet. But I chose to wear it, anyway, because I chose to act as though I already achieved the body that I wanted and I felt ready to show it around and appreciate it when I looked in the mirror.

And surely enough, three months later, I’m in a better place than I was before I made up my mind to start. Not only does my body feel and look better, but I also became so much more happier with the way I look. I wear myself around more confidently. I genuinely love the way I look. I work harder to give back to my own body for being so good to me in the first place. It is so much more than the thrill of finally noticing the results of the work that went into it – it is a change from the inside. It is also the persistent, positive belief that I can achieve what I want if I get up, take control and do the work.

Along the same lines, the Law of Attraction has prompted me to seize more opportunities. More than ever before, I am open to trying new things and enjoying the ride even when it looks and feels very scary. I guess the only way I can explain it is by giving some practical examples. Take this very blog, for example. After months of writing post after post, trying to find my creative voice and my niche and postponing figuring out a proper plan of action, I decided to jump right into it and go official, make a small investment and hopefully start getting something out of it. Or my poetry book, my first published book, which came out last Tuesday (click here to check it out!). A dream I have verbalised to every single person in my life since I was a child has finally come true, just because I woke up one morning and decided that I have nothing to lose, it’s time for my life to start. Then, you have everything I do to become and feel better, improve my physical and mental health and learn new things. Jobs I would’ve never imagined myself applying for, doing volunteering, doing everything I like and making time for all these things that mean a whole lot to me. I’ve ended up accidentally progressing with my bucket list, as well: in the summer of 2017, I wrote down that I would meet Dodie Clark and see twenty one pilots perform live again in the next five years. And in November of 2017, I met Dodie Clark and almost four months from now, I will see twenty one pilots perform live again.

Maybe I practised the Law of Attraction from the very start without realising.

Finally, practising the Law of Attraction has given my mental health a positive boost. I consider myself to be quite a sensitive individual, and my antennae always buzz at the tiniest of emotional stimuli, and especially at the negative side of things. I always felt as though it was essential that I expected and prepared for the worst, because if I didn’t, it would come back and bite me by the bottom. And for years, this was the sort of hanging and pacing that I’ve done. Every day, every time I woke up and every time I went to bed. So with the Law of Attraction, I realised that it’s time for that to change.

I am just happier now. Letting go of negativity, taking a step back from all the drama and the BS and just embracing a simpler way of doing things: welcoming them with open arms as they can, moving on and swiftly, never settling for anxieties or worries or insecurities. Going back to my thoughts on control, I learned that yeah, maybe my brain was never taught how to make the most out of the positive and turn its back on the negative, or at least see its silver lining but that doesn’t mean it has to stay in the dark. With the help of the Law of Attraction, I enjoy living more and I love my life more than ever before. And I am trying harder every day to harness more positive energy, for other people and for myself.

I don’t think that the appropriate mindset has any value if not coming along with a lot of work, resilience, self-discipline and passion. Really, the Law of Attraction will not bring you anything just because you think about it: there is a certain output of energy that needs to exist on your part to receive a response back. I would genuinely love to go more into the ways that I practise the Law of Attraction in a future post, if you guys might be interested to read more about it.

Until then, what are your thoughts on the Law of Attraction? Is it something you believe in? I would actually love to talk more about it, and any opinion is more than welcome! Please, do let me know in the comments section down below.
